Veterens Day ..Is this not suppose to be a federal holiday?

Today was Veterens Day. The day we honor our men and women who are veterens in the military or who are currently there now. They had a huge parade in Wahiawa town where Wheeler Air Force base and Schofield Barracks are at. Did I go? Nope I woke up with a fever again and a raging sore throat. When will this flu..not flu go away ? I am taking all my meds but its still here hanging around. I couldn't stay in bed all day so I got up and made breakfast for the kids. I made some portugese sausge with eggs and rice. Anyhow my daughter Alex ate a piece of the sausage and I guess somehow it got lodged in her throat. She came to the kitchen chocking. I saw she was in trouble and started giving her the Hiemlich. Nothing. I screamed for my husband and Thank God he was home. He came running from the bedroom and started slapping her on her back. Well good thing she had sense to put her hand in her mouth and pull the sausgae out of her own throat. Poor thing she was scared. I was scared. If anything had happened I don't know what I wouldv'e done. Anyhow after that scare we got ready because I had to pick up a cake , trophys and some gift certificates for the picnic/banquet tomorrow for my sons soccer team. I am glad it will be all over tomorrow. Anyhow I noticed that some banks were open today. I was amazed. Its bad enough that malls are open on new years eve and day but I think even some stores here open on thankgiving day. I am not talking grocery stores.. I am talking mall stores. Anyhow if you ask me it felt like a Saturday today. The closes I got to veteran was at Walmart and they were getting donations for some monument. I think we need to honor these people better than a holiday with stores and banks all open. Well at least there was no mail service today. It was a holiday to run errands today. So I came online to honor in the only other way I knew how. I left some comments on some sites thanking the men of women who serve us and have in the past. Some of the comments I read were touching. I wonder what my son is doing this day in boot camp? I hope he will be honored one day and much better than I did today.
